Is it worth paying for an ocean view room on a cruise ship as opposed to the basic inside room?
The rooms look identical, I'm just wondering if it is worth the extra money just for an ocean view. Thanks!!

- ABSOLUTELY....but then again, I love the ocean!
- Hell ya... you dont go on cruises all the time, do it right and get the best.
- it depends on how much money you have to waste
- I've had both. It didn't matter, we only used the room for sleeping and..hmmm..you know. So, the view was never noticed from there. Most of the time we were cruisin the ship.
- I always get an ocean view, at least. If you really want to do it right, get a verandah. It is so relaxing to go out there in the morning or late at night and just watch the waves roll by. It is absolutely beautiful. You can feel the breeze as the ship cruises down the ocean. It is also really nice to be able to look at the water when you are waking up, or when arriving at the port. It is cool to get to see land after a day or so at sea. The verandah is so nice, you will never want to go back once you have it. Other than having the wonderful view, there are some other things to consider. If you are prone to motion sickness, or afraid you may get sea sick, you may want to reconsider. Some people that have this problem say that if you look at the water, it can make the sensation worse. But if you bring sea bands or other medicine, this really shouldn't affect you. The ocean view or verandah also helps you once your on board to adapt. If you have the inside stateroom, be sure to bring an alarm clock or set the one in the room. The room will be very dark and you won't have any light if you don't have a porthole or verandah. It will be difficult to wake up in the morning because your senses will be off a little and you won't realize what time it is. Of course, some people like this so they can sleep in and relax. If you have ever cruise before, you know how small the staterooms can be. If you haven't, trust me, they can be very small and for some people they will close in on them. If you have more than two people in the room, or lots of luggage, the room will feel like it gets smaller and smaller. The porthole/verandah will kind of help to make the room feel larger. It will open the room up a little bit and make it feel more roomy. If you get a verandah, you can open the door to get some fresh air in, which can be very nice in a cabin that is closed all the time. I definately would go for the ocean view, it is a lot nicer. If you can, try to get a verandah, it is absolutely wonderful. But if it is something you don't think will be worth it, or you don't think you will use it, stick with the inside stateroom. This will give you more money for onboard or on land. Hope this helps, have a great trip! (P.S. you can also check with the cruise line, sometimes they will offer a guarentee. Basically, you will book the category you want, or the top category that you can afford. Then, if they don't have a room available in available in your category they will move you up a category and keep going until they find a room. You can get some pretty nice upgrades this way, it is always worth checking out.)
- In my opinion NO. (Not unless the ocen room is bigger). The reason why I say this is that most "Ocean Rooms" just mean that they are not inside rooms. Ocean rooms may have a port hole. The port hole is usually only 12 inchs around. You usually can't see much of anything. I would get the inside room unless you can afford to upgrade to a verandah (or balcony) room. The only down side of the inside room is that it will get pitch black. I could have slept in forever!!! With no external light you totally lose track of time if you don't set an alarm. With that said- depending on your cruise line and what an "ocean view" is... if the ocean view is more than just a port hole it is worth in. But be warned. Most ocean view rooms just mean you get a port hole!!!
- No it isn,t, unless you have a suite with a veranda its a waste of money. You,ll see plenty of ocean from anywhere on deck, if you are on an upper deck you might see the life boats below you,( big thrill). Of course if your room has a large picture window it might be worth it. Your going to enjoy the cruise no matter where you sleep, most people are to busy doing and eating, who needs a port whole to look out at the ocean.
